First day of MCA testing...

Today I will take a test...
And I will not be AFRAID!
I will certainly do my BEST,
Because...
I am very SMART TODAY!!!!!!!

We drank a cup of "brain" juice before our reading test!!!

It helped us to do an AMAZING job!!!

Student of the Week...

This is Jillian Weets.  She is this week's Student of the Week.  She has one sister named Jenna and a dog named Marley.  Some of her favorites are: the color yellow, monkeys, popcorn (LOVES IT), Junie B. Jones books, gymnastics, art for Valley Home residents, and being on the trampoline.  She is a star because she works hard and always tries her BEST!  Jillian is a great helper to everyone, especially Mrs. Helling and a nice friend.  When she grows up, she would like to be a teacher or a vet.  Three cool facts about her are that she has been to Florida twice, absolutely LOVES shopping, and loves dance and gymnastics.  She also shared a funny story about walking her dog one day, or did the dog walk you, Jillian?  She did an AWESOME job of speaking and she smiled so much.  THANKS for being you!!!

Noah made bracelets for EVERYONE in the classroom for Easter.  Here is a photo of them...

THANKS, NOAH!!!

Book-It Pizza Party...

We had a GREAT time eating pizza together last week in celebration of a month full of AWESOME reading.  We had pizza, pop, ice cream (thanks to Kendal), and candy!!!  I am so proud of my third graders...
YOU ROCK!!!!!

Safety Camp...

Here is Craig Mattson explaining the importance of going to Safety Camp.  Many students talked about their experiences and how much they learned!!  Registration forms were sent home in Friday Folders.  Any questions, call the REA.

Medical Careers Presentation...

Here the students are trying to do exercises and breathe through straws to show them what their lungs would feel like if they were a smoker.  It was very difficult to do...

This was a picture of a lung full of cancer from smoking.  They also looked at the chemicals that are in cigarettes--rat poison, windex, etc.  It was very interesing to the students and kind of scary at the same time.  They learned how to help others that wanted to quit smoking and asked good questions.

Here, one of the LHS students was showing them different kinds of cancer due to smoking and drugs.  They learned how to say "NO" as a third grader and also as a high school student.
THANKS to the LHS students and Sandra Peterson, Sanford Hospital rep.

To Mrs. Helling's Frozen Friends...

Here is a video clip on MCA testing, by some teacher friends from Minnesota!  It is an AWESOME story of how we need to think about our testing days at Challenger these next two weeks.  We have worked so hard to learn as much as we possibly can as third graders and be PROUD of our many learning experiences.  So, just do your VERY BEST, BE BRAVE, and BE AMAZING....

Mr. Marolt being duct taped by Mrs. Prickett's class with PINK tape.

Here is Mr. Wienen after he was duct taped by Ms. Johnson's class with ORANGE duct tape.  He was speechless, OR maybe couldn't speak!!!

We LOVED watching our third grade friends with Mr. Wienen all taped up!  It was a great challenge and an AMAZING way to make TRF proud of our students and families at Challenger.  THANKS SO MUCH!

Mrs. Helling's Weekend Adventure...

I went to see Ross and Kelsey's puppies this weekend on the farm.  There are TEN lab puppies.  I got to hold EVERY one of them and would never be able to decide which one I would take home.  They are so cute...

LHS Math League...

The LHS Math League was at Challenger for Prowler Pride today!  They did an AMAZING job of sharing their group with us.  They REALLY know their math...WOW!!!  We gave them some challenging math problems for homework!!!  Did you know that they have 44 members on their team?  We would LOVE to have them work with us on math sometime.  Their coach, Mr. Froiland talked to the students about always showing their work and challenging themselves to be problem solvers and good "thinkers".  THANKS for the great experience.  GO PROWLERS...

This is Kate trying out a high school calculator.  YIKES...

Student of the Week...

This is Coby Skjerven.  He is this week's Student of the Week.  His dad's name is Casey, his mom is Anna, and his Number #1 brother is named Cooper.  He is special because he likes to help others solve problems, he LOVES his family very much, and he knows it's important to be himself.  Some of his favorites are the color turquoise, Siberian Husky dogs, basketball, Boxcar Children books, pizza, art projects at Valley Home, playing outside, and snuggling.  When he grows up he wants to be an artist and play a sport in college.  Three things you may not know about him are that he has a moviestar for a cousin, he is 1/4 Polish, 1/4 Norwegian/Swedish, 1/4 Bohemian, and 1/4 Dutch/Irish/and English, and that his birthday is celebrated with his great-grandmother Hilda of 84 years.  GREAT JOB, Coby!!!
P.S.  He brought his Mario Chess game and showed us how to play!

The Robotics Team is back...

Here is the finished robot.  The team won THIRD PLACE in the contest last week.  YEAH....  Go Prowlers!

Here, Kaiden and Megan got to run the robot!!!

Valley Home Visit...

We visited our friends at Valley Home last Friday.  We made an Easter bunny and an egg for them to hang up on their doors.  We also interviewed them for a book that we are making.  We learned A LOT about them, especially what they did in school when they were young and what games and hobbies they had.  It was a GREAT time once again.  They make us smile, as much as we make them!!!  We can't wait to get started on the books...Here are some photos with our favorite people!!

Do you recognize this wonderful lady!  Doesn't Grandma Darlene look just beautiful!  She sent greetings to everyone at Challenger.
