This week's "Student of the Week" is Mya.  She is eight years old and would like to own a restaurant someday.  Some of her favorite things are  the color pink, tigers, chicken alfredo, Katie Kazoo books, basketball, reading, math, and watching tv.  She is a star because she is smart and kind.  She loves to help others!  Three things you may not know about her are that she likes to draw, skate,  and, snowmobile.   Great poster, Mya!

Henry's Freedom Box...

We are beginning a unit on Black History.  One of our favorite books is Henry's Freedom Box.  This true story portrays a man named Henry who makes a harrowing journey in a wooden crate to give himself the opportunity to have freedom.  He was one of many courageous people who risked their lives to have freedom for themselves and their families.

We decided to give one of our most prized possessions and keep it in a freedom box for one night.  We wrote about it today and were very PROUD of our decisions.  We know that Henry took more courage and was more brave than we will ever have to be, but are trying to understand that we have to give up things at times to make things better.  It was a great learning experience!

Student of the Week...

Our Student of the Week is Alec.  He lives in the town of St. Hilaire and gets a ride to school with his mom each day.  His middle name is James after his grandpa.   He has three AWESOME sisters and wants to be an athlete when he grows up!  He is a star because he is a "Dalager" and works hard.  He tries to help others and makes them feel better.  Some of his favorites are the color blue, deer, pizza, Harry Potter books, football, reading, and playing football with his dad.  Three things you may not know about Alec are that this is his 1st year as a wrestler, he loves hockey, plays center, and is jersey #11.   Lastly, his favorite team is the Gophers and he was even able to go to a game earlier this year with his dad.  Great Job, Alec!  We LOVED all of your photos.
